Men's rugby cruise past Mohawk to set up battle of unbeatens

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's rugby team (5-0 OCAA) will play for the OCAA West Division title in the final game of the regular season, setting up a battle of unbeatens against Georgian, after thrashing Mohawk 43-12.

The Bruins had a balanced attack in the opening stanza, with Andrew Zandona, Matt DeCosta, Jad Hamade, Adam Yhip, and JP Munro all scoring tries.

Hamade was successful on four of his five conversion attempts, to give the Double-Blue a 33-0 lead.

Mohawk scored a try on the final play of the first, but missed the kick, giving Sheridan a 33-5 halftime advantage.

Hamade opened the scoring in the second half with a successful penalty kick, with a Jeff Fallows try, and Matt DeCosta conversion rounding out the scoring for the Bruins.

Georgian (5-0) heads into the Battle of the Bears as the reigning OCAA champions, and riding a 13-game win streak, with their last defeat coming in the 2015 OCAA Championship game.

The two undefeated squads will square off Oct. 22 (1pm) at J.C. Massie Field on Georgian's Barrie Campus.
