BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Brampton Centennial Bucks posted a 3-0 record in the round robin stage and defeated St. Martin 68-59 in the championship game to claim the 2019 Sheridan Cup.
It marks the first title for BCSS, which has made more appearances in the 26-year history of the tournament than any other school.
They were relatively comfortable throughout the tournament, with the nine-point surplus in the final marking their slimmest margin of victory. The Bucks began day one with an 86-59 win over the defending champions from David Suzuki, followed by a 75-58 triumph over Campion.
Playing first on day two, they downed Louise Arbour 65-55 to punch their ticket to the final. St. Martin also went undefeated during group play, notching wins against Louise Arbour (60-58), Notre Dame (92-79), and David Suzuki (75-55).
Shy Grant scored 22 points in the championship-game victory for BCSS and was named MVP. He was joined on the tournament all-star team by fellow Buck Kevonte Marksman, St. Martin's DJ Jackson, David Suzuki's Christian Brazel, and Notre Dame's Leon Watson.
