Second straight tournament title for men's basketball in Wayne Allison Fall Showdown

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (8-1) put together a second straight 4-0 weekend and claimed another tournament title, downing Niagara County Community College 109-96 to win the Wayne Allison Fall Showdown.

"It was a great weekend from a development point of view," head coach Jim Flack said. "Some guys are starting to get their legs under them and the comfort level is showing."

Leading most of the way, the Double Blue pushed their advantage as high as 18 by the end of the third quarter before closing out the Thunderwolves in the fourth.

The tournament began with a re-match of the last weekend's Dawson Fall Classic Championship game against George Brown, with the Bruins winning Round 2, 74-62. Sheridan led by 22 at the break (45-23), but saw the lead cut to single digits in the fourth quarter before finally putting the game away.

The Bruins rounded out the preliminary round with wins against La Cite (101-72) and Canadore (96-82), although they were pushed in the latter, nursing a slim lead through three quarters before a 27-14 fourth period secured the victory. Nick Campbell was named the tournament MVP, while Tre Anderson and Kahleek Bakare-Whyte were named All-Stars.

OCAA West conference play will kickoff with a three-game home stand for the Double Blue beginning with a visit from St. Clair on Oct. 20 (6pm).
