Men's basketball can't overcome slow start in loss to McMaster

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (0-1) were slow out of the gates in their season opener against McMaster and could never fully recover in a 95-82 defeat.

The home side put up 31 points in the first quarter, connecting on 10 of 18 from the floor - including four of nine from 3-point range - and seven of nine from the free throw line. Meanwhile the Double Blue connected on four of 13 field goal attempts, including three 3-pointers to post 16 first-quarter points.

The Mac lead swelled to 26 midway through the second period before settling into a 58-37 halftime edge. After the break, the Bruins were able to settle down, winning not only the second half (45-37), but each of the third (25-19) and fourth (20-18) quarters.

Jemol Edwards scored a game-high 34 points, while Kahleek Bakare-Whyte (15), Nick Campbell (12), and Romar Subban (10) were all in double figures.

Sheridan will play their annual Alumni game during Homecoming tomorrow, and hit the road next weekend for the Dawson Fall Classic. The Bruins will John Abbott, Jean-de-Brebeuf, and Montmorency.
