Men's basketball pick up win over Fanshawe in conference opener

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (7-1, 1-0 OCAA) opened their conference schedule with a 106-77 triumph over Fanshawe.

The Bruins weathered a hot opening quarter from Fanshawe - who used a 10-2 run to open an early 19-12 lead - and trailed by two, 28-26, after the first quarter.

In the second frame, a 12-0 Sheridan run built a 48-36 advantage for the Double-Blue, as they held Fanshawe to 17 second quarter points and took an 11-point lead (56-45) into the break.

A 14-1 Sheridan run early in the third period pushed the Sheridan lead to 24 and the margin would never get smaller than 18 the rest of the way.

Nick Campbell led all scorers with 24 points, while four other Bruins - AJ Thompson (18), Jemol Edwards (13), Terrell Carr (12), and John Avery (11) - hit double figures.

The Bruins are in action again in one week, hosting Mohawk on Nov. 2.

Blue notes: The Bruins have topped 100 points in the last five games, and in six of their seven victories. The only win where they didn't top 100, was a 98-92 triumph over Brebeuf.
