BRAMPTON, Ont. - In front of a packed house, the Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (26-3, 11-0 OCAA) held off their rivals from Humber 86-82 in the 100th regular season edition of The Game.
"It was pretty typical of a Sheridan-Humber game really, close the whole way and with a pretty wild crowd," assistant coach Nick Davis said. "We got absolutely tattooed on the glass, but were able to create some turnovers which helped to balance that out and then we made just enough plays down the stretch to build a small cushion."
It was a high-scoring opening quarter, with Humber holding a narrow 25-24 lead by the end of it.
The pace slowed considerably in the second frame and featured two distinctive runs from each side - a 10-0 Sheridan run that gave them a 34-27 lead, which Humber responded to with a 15-0 run of their own that gave them a 42-34 advtange, the largest lead either team would enjoy throughout the night.
Sheridan re-claimed the lead early in the third quarter and the intensity really cranked up late in the period as there were seven ties and six lead changes down the stretch of a contest that featured 15 of each.
Late in the fourth Ostap Choliy began putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim, scoring nine of his 23 in the quarter as an 11-2 run from the Double-Blue proved to be the decisive one.
Brian Owusu also scored 23, while Dylan Periana was also in double figures with 14 to go along with nine assists.
The club will travel to Mohawk on February 7 (8pm) for a game that was re-scheduled from Janaury 25.
Blue notes: With his 14 point performance, Periana moved past George Frempong on the Bruins all-time scoring list and now sits ninth with 834 points.
