Paul Reader

Paul Reader helped create one of the most successful volleyball programs in OCAA history. Under his guidance, the Bruins won 11 OCAA championships and four national medals, including the only gold won by an OCAA team.

He coached 32 OCAA league and tournament All-Stars, 10 CCAA tournament All-Canadians and 15 CCAA All-Canadians.

Paul was a high school teacher at North Park Secondary School in Brampton where he had the opportunity to recruit many of the players that brought such success to the Bruins. Under his fine technical guidance and patience, players such as Mike and Mark Albert, and Andre Avedessian developed into OCAA All-Stars on teams that dominated OCAA tournaments.

Paul’s coaching was recognized with many provincial and national awards. He helped develop and inspire his successor at Sheridan, coach Adrian Sandy, who returned from McMaster to become Paul’s assistant in 1988 and ultimately head coach in 1990.

Paul retired with his wife Gloria but remained active on the volleyball scene, working with the OVA and the West Side Volleyball Club.
