Jim Takacs

Jim was the first men’s soccer scoring star for the Sheridan Bruins. Jim starred from Sheridan for Sheridan from 1979 to 1980 and scored 23 goals during those two seasons. Jim’s total of 23 career goals during two seasons placed him in the top ten of the OCAA career scoring in the time of his induction. Jim scored 14 goals to capture the 1979-80 scoring title, 7 of those coming in the season’s final match.

Sheridan was the mid-point of Jim’s overall soccer career. Prior to attending Sheridan, Jim starred in the Burlington soccer scene. Two years into his youthful career Jim became captain of the Burlington All-Star team and leading scorer for five consecutive years.

Jim made the starting line-up for the Ontario Senior League team at the age of 17. He was the youngest starter in the league, captain of the team at age 20 and the leading scorer for 8 years.

Jim’s international experience included matches with Sheridan against Purdue University and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Additionally, a tour by the Ontario Select team to the Bahamas and a trip to Hungary rounded out Jim’s international experience. While in Hungary Jim’s trip included a tryout in Hungary’s top league.

At Sheridan Jim was not only a prolific scorer for the Varsity Men’s Soccer Team, but he also had time to serve as place kicker for the Sheridan Football Team for both years as well.
