Clayton Blakeley

Clayton Blakeley played varsity hockey from 1989-1992 and was a graduate of the 3 year business administration program. The smooth skating centre was a conscientious student who chose Sheridan as much for the educational benefit as the hockey opportunity. An intense competitor, he brought energy and enthusiasm even to the practice rink; his was an up-tempo game that he tried to refine every day.

He never missed a game and always played through the little “hurts” inherent to the contact of hockey. He finished in the top ten for most career game played, with 64.

He could play in both ends of the rink; freewheeling on the offensive attack but “grinding it out performing the defensive responsibilities that the success of the team demanded. He was tough as was required yet only averaged 23 penalty minutes per season.

Clayton improved his goal production each year and in his final season he finished second in league scoring with 26 goals and 30 assists for an impressive total of 56 points.

Also in his final year as a team captain he was named a first team all-star, team MVP and was selected Sheridan’s Athlete of the Year. Clayton set the all-time scoring mark of 151 points breaking Bruin Hall of Famer, Eric Duncan’s mark of 130 points set in 1973-1975. He ranks in top ten career best average points per game and holds the number one spot for most career goals with 67. The statistical analysis is impressive, but dependability, hard work and courage are the roots of every team and Clayton personified these qualities.
