Bill Currie
Bill Currie

Bill Currie was a charter member of the very first Sheridan hockey team which operated as a club program in 1967-68. As the first captain in Bruins hockey history, Bill helped lead the team into OCAA league play where they captured the 1968-69 Central Division Championship and played in the OCAA provincial tournament finals.

He was team captain again in 1969-70 and graduated that year with a diploma in Business Administration. “Big Bill” as he was known, was a standout defensemen, big and mobile with a knack for the open ice hit. He logged many minutes of ice time, especially in key games. Bill was dominant on specialty teams, particularly on the point for the power play where his great shot and creativeness with the puck were many times the secret to Bruins success.

His scoring stats of 13 goals and 17 assists for a total of 30 points, doesn’t truly reflect the impact felt by his on-ice presence and composure. In recognition of his impact as a player, he was honoured with the Ray McAfee Trophy as Athlete of the Year in 1967-68 and 1969-70.
