31 Student Athletes claim OCAA All-Academic Honours

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Thirty-one Sheridan student athletes earned OCAA All-Academic Honours in the 2017-18 season, with nine of the 10 varsity teams having at least one representative.

"We are very proud to say that so many of our student athletes have receieved this award," athletic director Jim Flack said. "To be able to put in the amount of time it takes to compete at the OCAA level and still able to able to meet an honours academic standing is a tremendous achievement."

One of three academic awards available to student athletes, the OCAA All-Academic Awards are given to full-time varsity student athletes that meet the honours standards at their respective institutions and have successfully completed one academic semester.

At Sheridan, the threshold for an Honours GPA is 3.6 which equates to an average of at least 80 per cent.

The other awards available are both national in scope, with the CCAA Academic All-Canadian award - given to those who earned All-Star status and secured an honours GPA - and the CCAA National Scholar Athlete award - given to those who earned an honours GPA over the course of the fall and winter semesters.

Led by Academic All-Canadian and captain Kendra Challis, the women's soccer team had the most OCAA All-Academics among all Sheridan teams with seven.

Ten Bruins are receiving the award for a second straight year, while 14 have earned the honour on more than one occasion.

Erin Kinninmont, receipient of the 2017-18 Sheridan Female Academic/Athletic Excellence award, has been named an OCAA All-Academic in all three of her seasons in Double Blue.
