Challis and Adams named CCAA Academic All-Canadians

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Although they each picked up some hardware during Sheridan's 49th annual athletic awards banquet last week, a pair of team captains have received one more honour, as third year midfielder Kendra Challis (women's soccer) and fifth year middle Chris Adams (men's volleyball) were named CCAA Academic All-Canadians.

Challis, a student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences – Kinesiology and Health Promotion program, becomes the fifth women's soccer player to receive the award, giving that program more than any other Sheridan team.

She has been named an OCAA All-Academic in all three of her seasons and was named the women's outdoor soccer coaches award winner, after being named Female Athlete of the Year in 2016-17.

Adams - also enrolled in Sheridan's kin program - received the honour for a second straight season, making him the first two-time Academic All-Canadian in Sheridan's history.

During last week's Athletic Banquet he was named the male recepient of the Academic-Athletic Excellence Award, in addition to men's volleyball MVP.

In order to be named an Academic All-Canadian, a student-athlete must have an honours GPA and been named to a league or championship All-Star team.

The award was first presented following the 1996-97 CCAA season, and Sheridan has now had 19 recepients, with five from women's soccer, four each from women's basketball and volleyball, three from men's basketball, Adams' two representing men's volleyball, and one from men's soccer
